The Devil Inside Movie Review: This faux documentary centers around a girl who all but witnessed her mother murder three people in what is later discovered to be an exorcism. Obsessed with finding out the truth of that night, she embarks on a trip to Rome with her filmmaking counterpart in order to document their adventure into the dark world of exorcisms, and what they find is disgusting, shocking and grotesque in a few instances, but you just cant look away. What the director has done here, is try to balance dialogue with action a risky deviation from most horror films. The dialogue is a bit slow sometimes, but it is never off topic and keeps the story moving while giving a little more depth to each character after each sequence. Now dont mistake what I am saying, the screenplay is far from revolutionary, but it is a good start. The dialogue can be a bit cheesy certainly not helped by periods of lackluster acting, but as a whole, the film did not disappoint.

A good exorcism movie is hard to make simply because the viewer knows the stereotype and no one has yet to deviate from it yet. This movie tried in its own way to reinvent the exorcism movie and did in some ways, but kept faithful to what we know and appreciate for the most part.

The Devil Inside is not the action movie to go see with a bunch of friends. This is a movie best seen quietly. Take it in. Try not to pick apart every detail and your movie-going experience will dramatically improve for this movie. I give it a solid 7 out of 10. I left entertained and frankly a little freaked out. Exactly what a good horror movie should leave you with.

War Horse Movie Review: Steven Spielberg has assembled many fantastic movies, like Schindlers List, Jaws, E.T, Saving Private Ryan, etc. His new creation, War Horse is a stunning achievement. The film was professionally made, it looked amazing, sounded great. Legendary composer, John Williams crafted an amazing and beautiful score. It was one of the best, Ive heard in years.

Jeremy Irvine delivers a very heartfelt and convincing performance, hes just great. The rest of the cast, Emily Watson, Peter Mullan, David Thewlis, Tom Hiddleston, etc were all great, as well. However the star of the film, The Horse was simply amazing, the facial expressions were all spot on. Its just great, how you see the movie, from a horse perspective. Steven Spielberg deserves a lot of praise for that, and I hoper he gets it.

The cinematography is as good as it gets, its simply astounding. The films cinematographer, Janusz Kaminski deserves all the praise he gets, an Oscar surely awaits him. The movie deserves all the technical praise, it gets. The editing is well done, the art direction is spectacular, the look of the film is quite breathtaking, at times.

The film is uncompromisingly sentimental, and I wasnt annoyed by it. Because it worked so well, it made me care about the story, the characters, the horses. A good old fashion studio epic, I miss them and Im happy Spielberg delivered one. There are a lot of powerful scenes in the movie, from which I cried. It was just so moving, it showed the true consequences of war. Some of the battle sequences were simply fantastic and astonishing.

I am happy to see, Steven Spielberg in his top form. He showed, that hes still one of the best in the business and I hope to see more of him in the future. It may not be his best film, but it certainly a wonderful film to watch. Id recommend anyone to see the film, it will appeal to everyone.

We Bought a Zoo Movie Review: Cameron Crowe never fails to deliver hart warming drama comedies that make you laugh, cry and keep you on the edge of your seat for duration of his films. For me personally, I never seem to agree with Crowes casting taste (Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson never do much for me) but Cameron has a way with actors and a true vision for his story. He always seems to know exactly who can capture his characters and ultimately draw out your emotions that hes tugging at.

In We Bought a Zoo, there is a bit of a slow start and at one point I was worried Cameron had lowered his voice to appeal to a larger audience to please producers and critics alike (after his Critically bombed but personal all time fav, Elizabethtown).

But let me tell you, pay your dues with the first half of this film because the second half will take you on a mesmerizing cinematic adventure youll be heartbroken for more. Cameron ventures into a new family drama without compromising his voice, music taste or quality film making. And if you are still not a huge CC fan, the animals are sure to win you over. Their beautiful and natural moments on screen are as breath taking as they are tear jerking.

Spend an amazing two hours with this film and there wont be a person in your household that wont agree that this film is one to remember. From a fan and living room critic, I give it two thumbs up

The Awakening Movie Review: Between 1914 and 1919, one million people lost their lives to influenza. Society was more ignorant back then. Science and rational thinking were not then the forces they are today; people were open to anything, including the possibility of ghosts.

Florence Cathcart (Rebecca Hall) stands out in the London of the twenties for being a free thinker and a debunker of the supernatural. A boarding school teacher (Dominic West) implores her to visit his school following the death of a pupil, where unexplained sightings are being reported.

Florence isnt a total sceptic. She leaves some room for belief, which caused me to note she is agnostic towards ghosts. Essentially, there are two stories. One is concerning the death of the pupil. The other is more interesting and distinguishes it from a deluge of other horror films which have vanished from my mind as quickly as the ghostly apparitions in them. It focuses on Florence herself, and I shall say no more as I will not spoil it for you.

This is not a scary film; there are several portents but few frights. What there is plenty of, however, is suspense. Nick Murphy, in his feature length debut, also manages to sustain a melancholy mood, crucial for his story.

Its no surprise that Rebecca is the daughter of Peter Hall, founder of the Royal Shakespeare Company. She commands the screen in a way which would cause many of her peers to blush with envy. Her character is a difficult one to personify.

Dominic West, he with the simian countenance from the groundbreaking crime series The Wire, is very good as the guilt ridden soldier turned teacher. Imelda Staunton is effective as the school matron. She has that look in her eye which is trying to tell us something.

Im calling this a grown up film because the spiritual element becomes auxiliary. Guilt and loneliness take over as leading themes. Murphy has the acuity to drop the ghost story because otherwise it would be a simulacrum of other period chillers and focuses on a story of locked emotion.

The denouement is clever and original. The penultimate revelation would have been a superb ending on its own, so having a double twist is all the more impressive.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Movie Review: After the announcement that The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was getting an English-language film treatment, I decided that the hype had built up to a point where I just had to read the source material for myself. Though it is not without flaws, Dragon Tattoo is an excellent story with the important mission of raising awareness concerning violence against women. Mere days after finishing the book I watched the Swedish film. The hype train had me excited for an outstanding thriller.

The hype train let me down.

I was left cold and somewhat irritated by the Swedish adaptation. A ton of important plot elements were left out, some were inexplicably added (Blomkvists memories of the island became far too important and contrived), and Rapace felt all wrong as Lisbeth. She was brilliant and violent, but lacked the quiet pensiveness of the original character. She did not come off as autistic and emotionally disturbed, just bratty and rude. Worst of all, I was constantly confused by the extremely rushed, strange new take on the story.

As a lover of foreign films, I normally grind my teeth when I hear that America is developing a remake. However, I found myself desperate for this one. I needed a movie that actually gave me the experience of reading the book for the first time, that made me care for Lisbeth and that truly disturbed me. Thankfully, the American adaptation (not a remake) delivered exactly what I was looking for. Those who say this version is unnecessary or a rehash must have seen a very different Swedish Girl with the Dragon Tattoo than I saw. The American take is jam-packed with scenes that were either skimmed or completely left out of the Swedish version. Yet, despite being more robust, the English language Dragon Tattoo is incredibly paced, feeling less rushed yet hitting all the important plot points. The characters have time to develop and grow on you, the clue-finding makes more sense, and the killer is more horrifying. Screenwriter Zaillian knows exactly what to leave out and what to change (though the ending, which mirrors the books ending, could have been arranged better). Craig, Mara, and even Plummer are spot-on in their roles and feel more fleshed-out as characters. Mara, in particular, inhabits Larssons Lisbeth in a way Rapace did not. She captures Lisbeths silent, borderline-autistic nature perfectly. Her fragile body and alien appearance even match the books description. She allows herself to be vulnerable, but clearly regrets it over time. Its a captivating performance.

If someone were to ask me, personally, which version to see, I would have to say without hesitation that this is the rare occasion where the American adaptation is superior. I did not think it was possible to stay so true to the story under three hours.

Young Adult Movie Review: Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody have been kind of hit or miss for me or at least thats what I like to think. I didnt enjoy Juno nearly as much as everyone else seemed to while Jennifers Body, while not great, may have been better received on my end than what most give it credit for mostly because I have such a soft spot for horror. On the other hand though, Up in the Air was fairly fantastic all around. With that said, the main thing attracting me to Young Adult was the fact that Patton Oswalt had a rather big supporting role. Despite the fact that Charlize Theron has done so many things since and has won an Oscar, films like The Astronauts Wife and The Devils Advocate only come to mind whenever shes featured in anything which isnt flattering at all. So there was kind of this sense of dread going into Young Adult, but was it justified? The short answer is no, but it doesnt completely blow you away either.

There was an Entertainment Weekly article a few weeks ago where Theron said she aimed to not only be a mean-spirited individual, but also easily relatable as well. Thats the trickiest part with a character like this. Anyone can be cold or act black hearted, but doing that while also displaying qualities that make you feel sorry for them and/or feel like something you went through in your life is something special. Imagining anyone else in this role is practically impossible, as well. The entire premise seems to be built around Theron. She seems to be playing herself or at least a slightly exaggerated version of how she is in real life. That more than likely contributes to the movie working as well as it does.

One of the other great things about the movie is that its mostly unexpected. Young adult fiction writer Mavis Gary (Theron) currently lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota but decides to return to her small hometown of Mercury after receiving an email from her high school boyfriend Buddy Slade (Patrick Wilson) welcoming his first child into the world. Mavis somehow thinks that her and Buddy are meant to be together and despite Buddy being happily married and having a daughter that he loves dearly, Mavis thinks they can work past that to make things right between them. The outcome of the events is probably pretty predictable, but the relationships in between unfold in a way that you probably dont see coming. Im mostly referring to Mavis and Matt Freehaufs (Patton Oswalt) friendship as it goes in a direction that feels far too human for such a superficial individual like Mavis. Oswalt also seems to be playing an exaggerated version of himself as well as he makes full use of his geekiness. The Pixies shirt was also a nice touch. But Young Adult is mostly entertaining due to the way it feels genuine despite revolving around somebody who is as harsh and selfish as Mavis Gray is.

Young Adult is very dark and downright bleak at times, but thats one of its most distinguishing traits. Youll more than likely find something to relate to in Mavis Gray whether it was you who was the popular kid in school, are just as depressed as she is, think you may be an alcoholic, or youre a writer, Mavis isnt really in the right frame of mind and maybe thats the most relatable part of her character. Charlize Theron and Patton Oswalt share a kind of twisted chemistry that involves some fairly witty dialogue at times, but is mostly them dragging the other one through the mud with their words, which strangely only illustrates how miserable and similar their two characters are. Young Adult is a very fascinating dark comedy that is laugh out loud funny at times due to its cruelness, but shines thanks to its authenticity.

The Darkest Hour Movie Review: Just got back from a screening of The Darkest Hour and honestly this film was better than I anticipated. I confess, I hadnt wanted to go at all but my friend insisted and so to keep the peace I went. Granted, the beginning is a uneven and it was unclear where the story was going but once it clicks in the thing moves right along. You are never sure who is going to die next and that helps keep the suspense level high. The acting is serviceable and the location is a refreshing change from the usual New York/Chicago skylines. Its frankly more interesting to watch the tale unfold against the dinginess of contemporary Moscow, and with Russian soldiers instead of Americans. Moreover, the special effects are simple, but effective.

In essence, invisible beings are here to steal our electricity and only insulators enable us to be hide from them. Because they are ruthless and utterly determined, there is no hope for negotiation, no chance for peace. Early on it is made clear either we win or we will be exterminated.

I liked everything about the movie, even though the alien invasion genre has gotten a bit tired of late. I was never bored and was always in suspense as to what would happen next. At 89 minutes, this joint Russian-American production probably could have taken more time with its story and characters, and not be in such a hurry to kill them off. Since the background is so different, maybe they could have shown us more of the city or used the locations more effectively.

Yet for all the obvious complaints one can make, the move works if you let it. I believe viewers will find it worth their while. Take it for what it is, and I honestly think you will have a good time at The Darkest Hour.

Sherlock Holmes A Game of Shadows Movie Review: Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows follows the pattern of the first movie with Sherlock and Dr. Watson facing off against an evil villain. In this second going around, the great chemistry and interaction of Sherlock and Dr. Watson take the movie to a whole new level of fun and laughs.

I enjoyed the directors style in the movie, though many people will not. The director uses many unique views and lots of slow motion and stop action to highlight the realism of the film. In addition, the directors goes both back in time to highlight how Sherlock unravels specific mysteries and forward in time to visually walkthrough Sherlocks anlaysis of a situation. The style is unique and dynamic.

While Robert Downey Jr. has the central role as Sherlock, Jude Law steals the movie with his portrayal of Dr. Watson. Throughout the movie, the pair have great interactions, and their back and forth dialogue generates lots of funny moments. Robert Downey Jr. carries off the eccentricities of Sherlock with great enthusiasm, but Dr. Watsons expanded role adds to the depth of their relationship.

A pleasant surprise in the film was the introduction of Sherlock Holmes brother, who added some charm and comedy to the film in his small role. On the other hand, I was somewhat disappointed in Sherlocks nemesis Dr. Moriarty. The actor did a competent job, but the role didnt live up to the hype of Sherlocks ultimate foe.

Overall, Game of Shadows was enjoyable with an interesting story line, lots of action, and plenty of laughs. However, many will be put off my the directors unique, in your face style, which I enjoyed.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy Movie Review: It is true to say that Smiley is no Bourne nor Bond but Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a beautifully played and observed spy film. Should you expect car chases, spills, thrills, gadgets galore and closely choreographed fight scenes then you WILL be disappointed.

Set in smoke filled, sepia tinged 1970s, the film centres around the uncovering of a mole right at the top of the circus . The circus is the British Intelligence Services and is made up of a who s who of British acting talent Firth, Hinds, Cumberbatch, Hardy, Strong and Hurt. For the most part, the action takes place in the brown suited and wall papered world of England but we are given brief glimpses of the spy territory in Budapest, Paris and Istanbul. Smiley, played inscrutably by Oldman, is tasked with uncovering the mole and is ably assisted by Guillam, the ever watchable Cumberbatch.

Admittedly this is a slow burn of a film, full of meaningful looks, pregnant pauses and one that hints at deeper and more complex plot strands but it has an authentic air and it is a fascinating to observe a build up of tension and cold war paranoia which culminates in a dramatic if subdued fashion. Being slightly too young to have watched the original Alec Guiness TV series, I cannot make any direct comparisons and I imagine that a TV series allows much more time for plot and character development. The film must be judged on its own merits, and whilst I am sure that this will not be to many mainstream movie goers tastes, it is one for those who are looking for a film of a different type, time and pace.

The Sitter Movie Review: Hilarious from start to finish, The Sitter injected a muchneeded R rated comedy boost to the draggy awards season of December. Jonah Hill delivers another funny performance, but the real surprise for me was the shocking progay message featuring one of the first kidrelated gay story lines in a mainstream film. Max Records, the awesomely talented kid from Where the Wild Things Are, has no problem with the content and easily delivers a calculated performance. I guess I was so surprised because gay content is rarely dealt with so carefully in a Hollywood film marketed toward young adults, and I have to say I was really impressed. The kids make the movie all the better, and each of them is given a relatively well developed backstory. The movie never sputters out, running at a perfect pace and hitting all the right punches. Even Sam Rockwell is awesome as a crazy couldbegay drug dealer who chases the sitter and the children all across town. The Sitter is a movie Id easily recommend and another fun treat from director David Gordon Green.

Arthur Christmas Movie Review: Old Santa (Jim Broadbent) with his sons, Arthur (James McAvoy) and Steve (Hugh Laurie), silently witness the magic of Christmas morning, as their animated faces fill with wonder in Arthur Christmas. My eyes welled, as Director and Writer Sarah Smith touchingly and whimsically reminds us that the world works when no one is left out, and they know this. Sony Animations Arthur Christmas is visually amazing. I did not see it in 3D, and I thought it was great. It is the heartwarming and hysterical screenplay by Smith and Peter Baynham that lives and breathes in Arthur Christmas.

So how does Santa Claus deliver all those presents on Christmas Eve, so every child in the world can open their gifts Christmas morning? This generation of Santa is advanced technology and complex mission operations leveraging GPS and NORAD databases. No kidding. Santa commands the helm of S1, a Star Trek Enterprise like ship that also cloaks as the Christmas night sky. The Elves go all Tom Cruise Mission Impossible executing Special Forces synchronization delivering the presents in the designated drop zones. Smith directs the animated chaos with excitement and precision. Leading the Mission Operation from Mission Control North Pole amazing ice citadel of Elves and flat screens, is older brother Steve, (Hugh Laurie, brilliantly confident on the verge of pompous). Old school and misunderstood nerd younger brother Arthur (gentle and passionate James McAvoy), intervenes the operation with handwritten letters to Santa, I just want everything to be perfect! All heart Arthur personally writes back all of the 2 billion children, who write letters to Santa. To his soul, Arthur believes that Santa is the greatest man in the world.

After celebrating this Santas 70th mission, gift wrapping Elf Master Bryony (great and spirited Ashley Jensen) discovers an undelivered gift a child was missed! This is the pink bicycle sweet little Gwen requested from Santa. Arthur had assured Gwen (precious Ramona Marquez) that Santa exists and gave his word that she will be remembered on Christmas. From Steves perspective that is a 10 sigma error, within the parameters of mission success. Steve brazenly believes he is heir apparent to Dad. Santa (Broadbent) over the years, is the jovial old man reduced to figure head, also perhaps lapsing into Alzheimers. He is content to spend quality time with Mrs. Santa (sensible Imelda Staunton) following the mission.

Arthur enrolls the help of Grandsanta (crotchety Bill Nighy), because Gwen must wake up Christmas morning with her bike. Be careful what you wish for. Grandsanta goes really Old School, dusting off the Sleigh and the reindeer. And Arthur is reluctantly along for the ride with stowaway Bryony. Every gift must be wrapped. Obviously, all does not proceed as planned particularly without GPS navigation. The animated flight and visuals are seamless and fun. However, Grandsantas action is all about making others wrong. Arthurs spirit is tested, but for him it is always about bringing joy to a little girl on Christmas morning. He is the selfless noble soul, who gets that it doesnt matter who delivers the gift. Its about love. Arthur Christmas is touching, funny, and gets it right.

New Years Eve Movie Review: I cant see why people hate this movie so much. As for me it is a feel good movie. The movie is giving not only the movie but also the viewers a lot of hope. Yes i get it that this movie is not really digging deep enough to give a more powerful story, sentimental values bla2 and so on but the question is how do you put a lot of stories in one movie and make the viewers feel good. If its a series yes you can really go to the roots but this is a movie so the most the director has is two and a half hour plus. You may argue that lesser story would be better but i am sorry there are people out there who want more stories in a movie too and not series where when they leave you one week just to make you wonder what is going to happen next. For me, once again i have to say that this is a feel good movie. This movie should make you feel good after you have watch it and yes i did feel it after watching this movie. Yes you may say things like this would never happen in real life but hey we need movies like this so that we could give our self a second chance and hope. In terms of humor, this movie also will definitely make you laugh and smile in many scenes. It is not a great movie but it is a feel good movie.

Hugo Movie Review: What Martin Scorcese has managed to do is add story dimensionality to a family film that has 3D technology. Some of the dimensions hes included which dont always make into Hollywood blockbusters are an imaginative and original concept, thematic unity and resonance and deft homage to film itself, in the story of Georges Melies, French film pioneer.

Saw the film in an advance screening and we were among the many there who were obviously not standard family film consumers. This being a Scorcese film is likely to bring lots of adults to Hugo and I would think many of them, like me, will feel the film stands up as entertainment for all age groups.

I especially enjoyed the resonance and intricacy of the theme of clocks, clockworks, animatronics and the ghost in the machine, our fear, in the post industrial age that perhaps we are just a rather complex machine, rather than a divine creation. This is all beautifully rendered cinematically. I doubt the little ones will be bewildered while older viewers can pick out levels and layers in the film.

Good fun and visually interesting throughout. The 3D is used in service of the story. I hope Hollywood is watching and notices that special effects are only special when they get the heart of the machine working, like Hugos little man.

Carjacked Movie Review: Carjacked is a rather good film if youre in the mood for an easy watch, its obviously not the greatest film this year but its far from the worst. The story is quite simple, a woman and her son are Carjacked by a bank robber on the run from the police, the usual kinda stuff ensues, however this film has Maria Bello and Stephen Dorff, two actors who work extremely well together and they save what is usually a boring type of story.

Stephen Dorff is a great actor who is always very nice to watch and he always chooses interesting roles and he is great here by being the charming but also terrifying villain, and Maria Bello is awesome as ever as a woman whose day goes from bad to worse to horrible, she is definitely an actress who is consistent with her greatness.

The positive thing in this movie Is that she fights back , towards the end is a great scene where you can see the anger in her face and she decides to take control of the situation and get payback, its great to see someone who is a pretty weak and vulnerable character become strong and get payback. This is really just an enjoyable thriller that is easy to watch, has great acting and will not leave you angry at wasted money.

We Need To Talk About Kevin Movie Review: This is quite simply one of the best films of the year. Even the books author, Lionel Shriver, praises the film, calling it a brilliant adaptation. Thats unusual.

Being a first time dad, the story fascinated me. What happens if you dont love your own child and they know it?

Tilda Swinton, not normally a favourite of mine, is exceedingly good as Eva, the mum uninterested in maternity. Gravid when she least wants to be, out pops Kevin, her little Damien. You know from the moment she refuses skin to skin things are not going to end well.

She has no idea how to deal with a baby. Her idea of subduing him is to stand next to a pneumatic drill to drown out his relentless screaming. Kevin grows knowing he is unloved and demonstrates this through devilish behaviour towards Eva.

Gradually Eva, if not embraces motherhood, then at least gets better at it. Perhaps this is due to her giving birth to her second child, a girl, who Kevin of course hates with a passion. Or perhaps the idea of being a mum sinks in, along with the realisation that a career is not the most important thing in life.

Evas betterments do nothing to placate Kevin; he gets worse. Evas attempts to complain about Kevin are met with ridicule by the father, played by John C. Reilly, who thinks she is delusional. Years of unintentional, but sometimes intentional, neglect take their toll on Kevin, the films tragic conclusion is perhaps inevitable.

The origin for Kevins behaviour has polarised audiences. Did Eva create a monster by failing to form a bond early on? Should she have sought help from professionals if she felt she wasnt coping? Or was Kevin simply a bad seed, an innately evil child who no one could have cured?

Now that Ive had the chance to reflect, I think it is unfair to judge either son or mother. Id be surprised if Ramsay wanted audiences to do that. What would be the point? The film is a starkly brilliant exploration of a failed relationship and the consequences that has on a family and an entire community.

If Swinton can win an Oscar so easily for her role in Michael Clayton, she should be celebrating her second win now. Its one of those performances which needs months of detoxification and psychoanalysis to move on from. Her acting is matched only by new kid on the block Ezra Miller, who plays her lovelorn son. He brings to his role a controlled ferocity we are not used to seeing. He reminded me of Hannibal Lector.

His portrayal works, apart from his first class acting, because hes not the stereotype. To look at him, you would say he was handsome and ingenuous. But looks are deceptive.

Its hard for people to be repulsed by films nowadays, even prudes are becoming lewd. But there are scenes which will shock. So rare is it to see this kind of film. They vanish as quickly as they appear. You may have missed this at the cinema, but do catch it on DVD. Youll be moved if not entertained.

The Muppets Movie Review: There are very few of us twenty somethings who grew up without the Muppets. Between Sesame Street, Muppet Show reruns, and videocassettes of the various Muppet movies, we saw these guys all the time. We even had one or two theatrical releases of our own during the 90s. My personal favorite of those is The Muppet Christmas Carol, which is still annual holiday viewing. In recent years, since the very underwhelming Muppets from Space, weve seen them pop up now and again, mostly in similarly underwhelming TV projects and in short, yet hilarious, YouTube videos. I am quite happy to say that, in this newest movie, the Muppets are back in a big way!

The movie starts by introducing us to a new Muppet, Walter, and his strangely human brother Gary. Gary has planned a trip with his girlfriend, Mary, to Los Angeles, and he is taking Walter along to visit the home of his heroes, Muppet Studios. They find the studio to be in disrepair, and hear of an evil plot to destroy it. Can the Muppets, and everything we hold dear about them, be saved? To get my one complaint out of the way, I do feel that this movie was a bit rushed in places. I wanted more time with these awesome characters, and it did feel as if they were trying to get from one place to the next a bit too quickly.

That said, I spent nearly the entire movie with a smile on my face. These are the Muppets that I grew up with, doing what they are best at doing, with that gently edgy humor at which they have always excelled. While there are some moments that are very touching, it is mostly very funny, with lots of nods to The Muppet Show and The Muppet Movie. While new little Muppet fans should enjoy this, it will be much more meaningful to those who have a history with Kermit and Co.

Clearly made with love for Jim Henson and his creations of fur and felt, The Muppets is the most delightful movie Ive seen in theaters this year.

The Ides Of March Movie Review: George Clooney is running for President. Well, I mean, in The Ides of March, as Governor Mike Morris, hes running for the Democratic Presidential nomination. Hes the good guy and his opponent is the bad guy. Because thats how it is supposed to be, right? The opponents campaign manager is played by the ever shady Paul Giamatti, while Morris campaign is championed by the young, handsome idealistic Stephen, played by Ryan Gosling.

This is about politics, the games people play to get ahead, and the types of people who get played, thats the interesting part. The refreshing part, is that this isnt about election night and who is going to win and who is going to lose. A few poll numbers are rattled off, but its mostly about what is going to happen to our heroes, or anti heroes, and what are they going to do in response. When you look like Clooney and Gosling, its hard not to be the hero, but remember, this is politics and nobody is really a hero in that mess.

People make mistakes. I enjoyed following Stephen as he struggled internally with his path forward. He believes in the good of the Governor. Hes smart and passionate and makes a good campaign manager. His mistakes seem minor and understandable. The problem is, hes 30. Hes at the in between age, where hes half young college student ready to take over the world and half experienced cynic. Those are two very combative halves and when they come at odds within him, the character takes some shocking and drastic turns.

The few references to actual political gaffes are obvious and just done for comic relief. All the clever lines are stolen by Giamatti, who, I am predicting, will come away with the only acting nomination for the film. Although, the brilliant character work thats done by everybody, and is what makes The Ides of March so intriguing.
